Portrait of Kentaro Aki

Bio-media artist and design researcher, working where humans, other living things, and material meet.

I am 25 years old, and hold an M.Sc. from the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering at Waseda University, in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Bioscience and Informatics.

Since my fourth undergraduate year, I have been drawn to the relationship between humans and other living beings, and to post-anthropocentric thinking — ways of seeing the world that do not place the human at the centre.

In my practice, I came to see the cultural and bodily relationship between moss and people as a way to make those questions tangible: a living metaphor to think through, rather than argue about. Alongside making work, I have been based in London since June 2026.
